DIGI CITIZEN

  1. Familiarizing with the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA). Getting European healthcare card. What are the services I use personally and we use in the family?

I have become familiar with the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA), and I already own a European healthcare card.

Both me and my family usually access KELA by logging in to our own profiles on the webpage oma.kela.fi.

I have not used the Kela website a lot in my life, because I did not have a need for it until recently. However, our family became bigger 5 months ago, therefore both me and my boyfriend had to check such family services on Kela website as: daily allowances for parents, pregnancy allowance, parental allowance, maternity package, child benefit, child care allowance.

We also use oma.kela.fi to make applications related to family services and check the status of these applications.

  1. Accessing my own health care data provided by OmaKanta. How did I access?

I access OmaKanta by visiting the web page kanta.fi/omakanta and then clicking “Kirjadu OmaKantaan”. I log in with my bank credentials.

In OmaKanta, I usually check the health information, such as doctor’s notes and laboratory test results.

  1. Look how much pension you will get if you retire at 63 years, or 68 years (Keva).

I could not find information about my pension on Keva website, however I found it on Varma website (varma.fi). I navigated to “Find out the amount of your pension”, and then clicked “Log in to Varma online service”. My earliest retirement age is 67yrs 5mths, My target retirement age is 69yrs 10mths. And my maximum retirement age is 70 years. I have also seen my estimated pension which I could get by 67, 69 or 70 years.

Second part of the task:

  1. Visiting digital shops like eBay, Amazon, Booking.com, Trivago and evaluating the prices to local shop prices, and information adequacy to the consumer. Is the chosen service reliable?

I use booking.com very often and I find this service reliable and trustworthy. I use it for traveling, when there is a need to find accommodation. I think it’s adequate, and users can leave reviews there, which makes it faithful.

I have never used Trivago, but I have checked it now specifically for this task. I find it reliable as well, since it provides a wide variety of accommodations and customer reviews and ratings.

As for Amazon, I had a positive experience with it: the order was shipped and delivered as stated, price was low and quality was good.

Talking about eBay, I have never used it. I have checked it now. I can say that prices are quite low, but I feel like you have to look at the seller’s score on the product page to make sure that the seller is reliable.

  1. Finding one service/application from my own field. Explaining reasons for my choice and my user experiences.

I work in a company, which produces equipment for mining and tunneling, and also provides spare parts for the equipment. It is hard to find an e-shop of mining equipment, since it’s quite expensive (it is an investment for companies), and the process of buying it is much more complicated than buying, for example, clothes.

However, I have visited a Wurth web shop (eshop.wurth.fi), and I can say that it is reliable, clear, easy to navigate and informative.

  1. Digitalization and digital gap; what are the risks and challenges for those people, who do not use virtual services?

One of the challenges is that people who do not use virtual services have a much more limited variety of products and services available. Very often, we cannot find something locally, but we are able to find and order it online, and the item can be delivered to your door.

Another challenge is that many offices prefer to receive applications online nowadays, rather than having people actually coming into their offices. Therefore, actual office hours of different services might be very limited, whereas online services are available 24/7.

Thirdly, some services require us to log in online and make appointments online.

And finally, education nowadays can be partly or even fully virtual. So one would have to learn to use Moodle or Wilma if he/she is pursuing a degree.

  1. Leave a comment on three interesting articles.  Remember to include the URL of your blog, so that person can visit you as well. 2.  Digital Competence Test

I have completed the test and my result is below:

6. What did I learn from these assignments?

I have checked a few websites which I had never checked before, such as Varma and eBay. Besides, I have learned how to check my pension. Moreover, I have done the Digital Competence test and got recommendations on what I need to improve.
